Is the culture "Shocking" You ? or, Are you "Shocking" with the Culture ?

Are you glad of Coming ?

Being in a different culture can represent the most wonderful experience ever, or perhaps the worst time of your life; and you know what ? It only depends on you. Most people present some problems with living in a different culture. We can say that sharing with new people can have its pros and cons. For one side, we can learn new things, acquire new behaviors and most important we become wiser for letting this new people coming in our lives. On the other hand, we can also experience awful feelings and these can make our journey a "terror history". But....

Are there ways to avoid this from happening ?

Well, the most simple answer to this question is... Yes, there are. It is important to express that when you are in a mental place where everything is the worst thing ever, is not that easy to overcome this problem and find a way to deal with it. But, it is not impossible to start loving your new culture, and for doing this here there are some tips.

  • First, You need to chill out a little bit, and not become over reactionary with everything around you. that is kind of annoying for the people around you and would make your life a little more complicate. So just relax and take everything with a positive attitude.
  • Second, try to meet new people and have a nice conversation with them. OK, I know this is not easy but remember what I've already told you, relax and besides you should have an open mind. Meeting new people is a positive thing, you can learn about new places and new activities to spend some time, and who says that it is a bad idea ?
  • Later, After trying new things and meeting new people, you should have some rest. After all these activities are not easy to accomplish and you may find that relaxing is a great way to change your mood and it is a good help for your new life.

Of course there are more things to do to help you adapt to this new place, but the mos important thing to do is trying to see this new place with an open mind and a wide open eyes. there are so much to learn and so much to see that if you don't give it a chance you may regret it the rest of your life. Things sometimes may become more complicate it, but try to reach all your goals, your aspiration by the right means. Most of the times it does not matter if you get what you want if you are not proud of what you did to get it.

There is not a bad place, just a bad attitude toward it.

"I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him." Abraham Lincoln

Cross-Cultural Love ?

"Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it... It really is worth fighting for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more." Erica Jong

What's Love ?

We must absolutely agreed that this is one of the most difficult and tricky questions that ever exist. How can anyone give a concrete definition about Love ? Is it possible to define Love as a good thing or a bad thing ? Every definition changes according to the experience that all of us have; if we lived good moments with our partners we surely would say that "Love" is the most beautiful feeling that exist,on the other hand, if we experienced bad we with no doubts would say that is the worst thing that ever happened. Nevertheless, we all can say that we have had experience love in the past, can we ?

"Love all, Trust a few, do wrong to none"
William Shakespeare

But, is love an universal feeling ? Or, is possible that the perception of love changes depending or our country ? Could it be possible that what we consider love is understand as something completely different somewhere else ?

Is it Love a Cross-Cultural feeling ?

Well, this I don't know, I can only make assumptions about it. We might find some differences in what we consider what love is, but it seems that deeply the concept of love is accepted and understood by many people as the same. Additionally, it is important to say that we possibly find variations on the surface concepts but without this exception, the word "Love" is related with kindness, strong bounds of friendship and an unconditional sense of commitment with your mate. In Short, I can say that so far, the feeling of "love" is cross-cultural.

A Sub-cultural World

What's Culture ?

Edward B. Tylor
According to the English anthropologist Edward B Tylor, culture is "that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man person as member of society"
But I consider that is difficult to categorized everybody inside one
big group, just because we all are different. We see the world in a different way, we have a unique perspective of what happens around us, our belief may be similar but we differ in many things, and our perception of what's right or wrong changes based in our personal criteria.

For these and many more reasons is that people decided to create a much specific culture, in which they can be  more involved with and also which let them show their unique characteristics as humans. Knowing this need for expressing that they have a different point of view from the generality, people decided to create their own culture to be noticed as a unique group and not as part of the whole.

They created a Subcultur

A group of people that share a different way of living compared with the rest of the world. they chose to change the way of dressing, their likes in different aspects, as arts, food, ideologies and much more just to show others that they are unique and that they are not afraid of expressing themselves as they really are.

But with this change, many difficulties appears in the lives of these people. most of them were rejected by the society and were isolated because the "whole" could not understand and, more even, could not accept what it was different. But later on we will touch this part of this Sub-Cultural World

I leave you with this funny image I found.

Japan: A World of Futuristic Culture

We live in a HUGE world in which there are millions of people, each one of them with a unique way of thinking, a magic world to explore is found in the inside of our heads.

Japan is a place where we can find a culture of respect, development and a deep desire of growing. Most people consider Japan as a place where all the people just care about fighting as Martial Arts, but what is most remarkable of this country is that they have a deep sense of respect for they traditions and they are strongly committed with the fact of searching for new technologies.

It's time for us to understand and appreciate  that the world out there is wide bigger not only in lenght but in culture and beliefs. We should open out minds in order to become a better and wiser person.

"No matter how far a person can go the horizon is still way beyond." - Zora Neale Hurston
